Primary pupils shine at KS2 dodgeball event at Co-op Academy Walkden

Pupils from three primary schools came together at Co-op Academy Walkden for a fun, fast-paced KS2 dodgeball event that celebrated teamwork, confidence and enjoyment of sport.
Walkden was pleased to welcome pupils from Co-op Academy Medlock, Co-op Academy New Islington and Co-op Academy Broadhurst for a recent KS2 dodgeball festival.
All pupils arrived with a positive attitude and gave their best throughout the day. Teams worked well together, showed great sportsmanship and threw themselves into every game. Staff shared how excited pupils were to take part, with many continuing to talk about the event long after returning to school.
The event followed the success of a recent sports hall athletics competition and continued the focus on giving pupils positive, inclusive experiences through school sport.
Year 10 Sport Studies students from Walkden played a key role in making the day a success. They supported with setting up the event and confidently refereed the games, showing leadership, responsibility and pride in helping younger pupils enjoy their first taste of secondary-hosted sport.
"It was great to welcome Medlock, New Islington and Broadhurst to our Co-op Academy Walkden for the recent dodgeball event. All pupils involved worked brilliantly as a team and their effort throughout the event was amazing!"
Looking ahead, Co-op Academy Walkden will host a Year 7 and 8 boys’ seven-a-side football event next week, welcoming all six local secondary schools. The event will focus on non-school-team players, creating more opportunities for pupils who may not usually represent their school to take part and feel included.
