Fairtrade football tournament brings our academies together

Students from three of our academies recently came together for a brilliant Fairtrade football tournament. A day full of teamwork, energy and friendly competition.

The event wasn’t just about football. It was also a chance for students to learn more about Fairtrade and why it matters. Before the games began, Mark from We Are Fair Trade spoke to students about how everyday choices, like the footballs we use, can make a real difference to people around the world.

The tournament was organised by three of our Academy Community Pioneers, working together to bring the day to life.

Daryl Tomlinson, Regional Community Manager, said:

"It was fantastic to see three of our Academy Community Pioneers coming together to make this happen. When our academies collaborate like this, everyone benefits. The level of teamwork and the sportsmanship from all the students was brilliant to watch. It is exactly what 'succeeding together' is all about."Name

Students played with real enthusiasm and respect throughout the day, supporting each other on and off the pitch.

A special mention goes to eight student leaders from Co-op Academy Belle Vue, who helped run the event. They led warm-ups, refereed matches and encouraged players throughout the day.

Hannah Molloy said:

"I was completely blown away by the maturity and leadership of the students from Belle Vue. They took charge of the warm-up drills, confidently refereed the matches, and took on the very important job of observing the games to select the winners for the sportsmanship awards. They were true role models throughout the day and ensured the whole event ran smoothly."

For many students, the highlight was meeting others from different academies and being part of something bigger.

Jo Alderson from Co-op Academy Broadhurst said:

“Our students loved every minute. Days like this make such a difference - they build confidence, create new friendships and give pupils something to be proud of. They haven't stopped talking about it since we got back!”Name

A huge well done to all the students who took part, and a big thank you to our Community Pioneers and staff who worked so hard to make the tournament a reality.
