Co-op Academy Glebe Serves The Hubb Foundation’s Millionth Meal
Co-op Academy Glebe was last week honoured with the opportunity to serve The Hubb Foundation’s millionth meal.
The Hubb Foundation and Co-op Academy Glebe have been providing holiday enrichment in partnership with local partners and businesses during school holiday periods since 2018.
Through this partnership, the school has offered a variety of activities during school holidays, including physical exercise, crafts, cooking sessions with local chefs, circus skills, and STEM-based learning. These sessions not only provide a safe and engaging environment for children but also ensure they receive nutritious meals.
On Wednesday, 28th August, The Hubb Foundation reached a milestone moment in its journey, as they served their one millionth meal to pupils attending the HAF (Holiday Activities and Food) club at Co-op Academy Glebe.
Celebrating this incredible achievement alongside attending children and staff at the academy was The Hubb Foundation founder and trustee Carol Shanahan, Adam Yates, Chief Operating Officer at The Hubb Foundation, Labour and Co-operative Candidate for Stoke-on-Trent, Central Gareth Snell and Councillor Sarah Hill, Stoke-on-Trent City Council cabinet member for Children’s Services.
Suzanne Oakes-Smith, Executive Headteacher at Co-op Academy Glebe said:
“It has been a true privilege to work with The Hubb Foundation since 2018 and see how their work has been a catalyst for change in the city – transforming the landscape of school holidays for thousands of children across the city.
“I have seen first-hand how providing safe and enjoyable places to go has created a wealth of memories, inspired children through new opportunities and new skills, supported families at points of crisis, and changed lives; and all underpinned by great food.”
Suzanne further praised The Hubb Foundation for fostering strong partnerships across the city, involving community groups, charities, schools, the local authority, and businesses, saying: “Their work continues to go from strength-to-strength and acts as a valuable arm around our community.”
Adam Yates, Chief Operating Officer at The Hubb Foundation, said:
“In less than six years, we have served a million meals to children in Stoke-on-Trent and given them opportunities to take part in a range of activities that help make holiday memories special.
“It’s a remarkable achievement, delivered with a great deal of help from across the city including Stoke-on-Trent City Council, our trustees, the local community, and our business supporters. It shows what is achievable when partners work together to address a need.”
