Celebrating Young Musician Of The Year 2026

We recently celebrated the grand final of the Young Musician of the Year 2026 competition. It was a fantastic night that brought our academies together to share in the joy of live music.

This year, we had over 250 entries from across the Trust. After lots of practice and regional semi-finals in March and April, our finalists got the chance to perform at the beautiful Stoller Hall in Manchester.

The event was extra-special because we partnered with EQTY in Music, a brilliant charity that has been working with 12 of our secondary academies.

Through this partnership, our students got to experience professional soundchecks and play alongside top industry session musicians. This kind of support helps our students express themselves, show their talents, and be themselves on stage.

Outstanding performances from our students

Our primary school performers set a wonderful tone for the evening. Mia from Co-op Academy New Islington and Elizabeth from Co-op Academy Friarswood both gave beautiful, brave performances that delighted the audience.

From our younger secondary school groups, Stefan from Co-op Academy Grange and Josh from Co-op Academy Bebington showed incredible dedication and skill.

Our older secondary school students also shone brightly. Rosa from Co-op Academy Priesthorpe and Sophie from Co-op Academy Failsworth gave moving performances that showed just how hard they have worked.

While judges chose winners for the different age groups, the real joy of the night was seeing how much our students cared for each other. Backstage and on stage, they cheered, clapped, and supported one another. Just stepping onto that stage was a massive achievement for every single student.

Matt Asher, the music director for our Trust, was incredibly proud of everyone who took part. He said:

"I am incredibly proud of every single student who took part. The standard of musicianship on stage was incredible to watch. Standing up on stage at a venue like Stoller Hall takes a massive amount of courage, and seeing our young people from across all our academies support each other so brilliantly was just wonderful."
