Students celebrate community action at Time for Change final

Year 7 students from across our Trust came together at Co-op's headquarters to celebrate creativity and community action at the final of this year's Time for Change final!

The 16-week programme gives students the chance to identify an issue they care about and work together to make a positive difference in their school or local community.

After presenting their projects to a panel of judges, Co-op Academy Brierley were crowned this year's winners, with Co-op Academy Failsworth named runners-up!

Students explored a wide range of important issues, with projects focusing on everything from supporting older people to use technology to stay connected, to tackling fast fashion. Other groups looked at ways to care for the environment, including plans to clean up local green spaces and plant oak trees for future generations.

Throughout the programme, students developed valuable skills including teamwork, communication, problem-solving and presenting, while discovering how even small actions can make a real difference.

As part of the final, every team presented their project to a panel of judges from Co-op and partner organisations. It was a fantastic opportunity for students to share their ideas with professionals, answer questions and receive valuable feedback. Judges included Keela Walsh, Academies Business Partner at Co-op, Phil Cuthbertson and Zoe Cameron from HH Global, Jamie Otter from Stone King, and Heather Linch. They were incredibly impressed by the creativity, confidence and commitment shown by every group.

Jo Sykes, Director of Careers at Co-op Academies Trust, said:

"Time for Change is about helping young people realise that their ideas matter. It's been fantastic to see students working together to tackle real issues in their communities while building confidence and skills that will stay with them long after the programme has finished."

Congratulations to every student who took part in this year's Time for Change programme. The ideas, enthusiasm and determination on display were a brilliant reminder of the positive impact young people can have when they're given the opportunity to lead.
