Co-op Academies Trust Shortlisted for Two National Awards

We’re really pleased to share that our Trust has been shortlisted in two categories at the 2026 MAT Excellence Awards:
- SEND Award
- Community Trust of the Year
This recognition reflects the work happening every day across our academies to support students, families and communities.
Being shortlisted for the SEND Award recognises the way we support children with additional needs across our Trust. In our schools, inclusion isn’t something extra, it’s part of who we are. We work together to remove barriers, reduce stigma, and make sure every child feels they belong.
That includes:
- giving staff the training and tools they need
- creating calm, supportive classrooms
- working closely with families
- listening to what pupils need to thrive
Ian Berryman, Executive Headteacher, said:
“We want every child to feel understood, supported and able to succeed. This recognition reflects the consistent, day-to-day work happening in our schools to make that a reality.”
Our shortlisting for Community Trust of the Year reflects the partnerships we’ve built with families and local organisations.
Across our Trust, we work closely with communities to understand what support is needed and then act on it together. From providing food and hygiene support, to supporting attendance, we really believe in working with communities, not just in them.
Liz Garrity, Head of Community Development, said:
The award recognises the hard work of so many people within the community Team. Those that have been developing relationships with communities and staff in academies to know the real needs, collaborating with companies and charities on behalf of all our academies. This work is about people helping people. We listen to our communities and work alongside them to remove barriers and create real opportunities for children and families.”
These nominations recognise the care, commitment and teamwork across our Trust. From classroom staff to community teams, colleagues are working together to do the right thing for children and families.
We’re proud of everyone involved and we’re looking forward to celebrating with colleagues from across the sector in June!
