Primary pupils shine at Priesthorpe’s Sports Hall Athletics morning

Co-op Academy Priesthorpe welcomed 48 Year 5 and 6 pupils from Co-op Academy Parkland, Co-op Academy Beckfield and Co-op Academy Princeville for a lively morning of athletics on Wednesday 3 December 2025.

Co-op Academy Priesthorpe was full of excitement on Wednesday 3 December as they hosted a Sports Hall Athletics event. They were delighted to welcome 48 enthusiastic Year 5 and 6 pupils from Co-op Academy Parkland, Co-op Academy Beckfield and Co-op Academy Princeville. The pupils arrived ready to run, jump and throw their way through a busy morning of sport.

Joanna Newsome, Regional Sports Event coordinator at Priesthorpe, said: "The atmosphere was warm and supportive from the very start, with constant cheering around the hall. Every pupil gave their best effort and showed real determination, fairness and team spirit. It was a lovely example of our co-operative values in action.

A huge thank you goes to our 17 fantastic Year 9 Sports Leaders. They planned, organised and led the activities with real care and confidence. Throughout the morning they coached younger pupils, kept scores and made sure everyone felt included. Their maturity and professionalism shone through and we are very proud of how they represented Priesthorpe."

The competition was very close, with all three schools showing great talent. Congratulations to the medal winners:

Gold: Co-op Academy Parkland
Silver: Co-op Academy Beckfield
Bronze: Co-op Academy Princeville

Well done to every pupil who took part. Events like this help to build confidence, support positive friendships and give children the chance to try new skills.
