We’re looking for an experienced HR Manager to join our team supporting academy schools in Greater Manchester

You’ll help drive school improvement and culture change through ‘high challenge, high support’ professional HR advice across the full employee life-cycle, working closely with the Chief Education Officer, Headteacher and other senior leaders. This will involve managing complex employee relations cases, dealing with HR policy queries, and trade union relations. You’ll also be supporting organisational development and upskilling line managers.

This role is based at Co-op Academy Swinton, and you’ll manage the academy’s HR Advisor. Initially the majority of your time will be focused on ensuring excellent HR practice within the academy, and proactively supporting the academy’s senior leadership team as they continue on their journey towards Outstanding. You’ll also be an active member of our wider HR Manager team, working across the Trust as a whole to support casework, deliver training, and lead on HR workstreams. And in due course, your portfolio of academies will change and grow, depending on the needs of the Trust.

CIPD qualified (or equivalent), you must have previous experience of advising on a wide range of employee issues, including casework and trade union relations, ideally within a school setting. A pragmatic team-player with great organisational skills and the ability to work on your own initiative, you’re able to build strong working relationships with, and influence the work of others, and are flexible, self-motivated & resilient.

This is a great opportunity for someone looking to broaden their HR experience in a friendly and supportive team.

Although based mainly at one site initially, you will be required to travel to other academies elsewhere in the Trust (which currently includes Greater Manchester, West Yorkshire, Staffordshire and Merseyside). Own transport and a willingness to travel and work flexibly (with due notice) is therefore essential.

  • 30 days annual leave + bank holidays (pro rata if part time)
  • Local government pension scheme
  • Co-op staff discount and other benefits
