Our Courses

Primary 3-7

Working with Primary age children is so rewarding and if you have a particular interest in the early years then this course is for you. Trainees will complete teaching placements in the Nursery, Reception and Key Stage 1 and benefit from specialist training in Early Years Foundation Stage and Primary. You will become experienced in delivering the Early Years and Key Stage 1 Curriculum, teaching the essential knowledge to enable children to become confident, independent thinkers and the skills needed to prepare them for the rest of their school years and beyond.

Primary 5-11 

This course will train you to teach children aged 5 to 11. It provides training in all primary stage National Curriculum subjects, with a particular focus on Mathematics, English and Science. You will spend a significant amount of time studying the core subjects outlined above, while also studying Religious Education, History, Geography, Art, Music, Design and Technology and PE.

Primary SEND

Our Primary course with a specialism in SEND focuses on enabling all children to be successful from the very start of their school life. This course prepares you to be an outstanding primary school teacher with additional skills that will allow you to become confident in creating an inclusive classroom. In addition, following this specialism can also be a step towards a career as a SENCo or a specialist SEND teacher.

English

Is there anything more rewarding than sharing your passion for the English language with students across the 11-16 age range? Inspire them to develop an appreciation for English and all its applications, from personal communication to classic literature. Teaching this core subject will not only develop all students reading and writing, necessary for everyday life, but provides the opportunity to gain key skills such as inference, oracy, critical thinking and communication.

Maths

Teaching maths and the ability to think mathematically across the 11-16 age range is perhaps one of the most important and rewarding careers in today’s society. Developing student fluency, understanding and critical reasoning through your innovative approaches to teaching will bring the subject to life. Engaging and creative practitioners are needed to give students equal opportunities to succeed, through key life skills, and by inspiring them to use their maths knowledge in further study and encouraging them to aim high. Biology

All our Science courses will allow you to promote student understanding of the scientific world around them. During this course, you will be expected to teach all 3 sciences and acquire a critical understanding of the current debates and issues within science education. You will be stretched to apply your secure Biology knowledge to all students aged 11 to 16. Bursaries are available to successful applicants.

Chemistry

All our Science courses will allow you to promote student understanding of the scientific world around them. During this course, you will be expected to teach all 3 sciences and acquire a critical understanding of the current debates and issues within science education. You will be stretched to apply your secure Chemistry knowledge to all students aged 11 to 16. Bursaries and scholarships are available to successful applicants.

Physics

Geography

Understanding the ever changing world around us is of paramount importance. Teaching students across the 11-16 age range about how natural processes and external forces now, and in the past, are affecting the future of the Earth and its inhabitants is a beautiful career. Through this broad, interesting and practical subject, your students will develop a diverse set of skills, applicable to many careers from conservation to policy. Bursaries are available to successful applicants.

History

Contextualise current events for students across the 11-16 or 11-18 age range through the study and understanding of what’s happened in the past, and bring your love of history alive through engaging storytelling and attention to detail. As well as sparking their passion for history, you’ll be arming them with key analytical skills for future success, whatever they choose to do.

R.E

Raise cross-cultural awareness and encourage empathy, enquiry and critical thinking in secondary school pupils aged 11 to 16. During this course, you will understand of the role RE can play in promoting interfaith dialogue and community cohesion whilst strengthening your knowledge of essential educational and pedagogical theory in RE.

Computing

Our Computing course will equip you with the range of academic, professional and vocational knowledge, understanding, skills and values necessary to teach all aspects of computing. You will have the opportunity to interact with the latest specialist computing software and tools in schools in order to teach computer science, digital literacy and information technology. Bursaries and scholarships are available to successful applicants.

Design and Technology

Design and Technology as a subject provides young people with an ideal opportunity to develop their learning and understanding of the world around them through problem identification; problem solving; abstract thinking; and the application of diverse knowledge domains and intellectual abilities. You will be given opportunities to develop innovative and progressive teaching and learning strategies within Food, Textiles and Product Design. Bursaries are available to successful applicants.

Art and Design

Art and Design teachers prepare and deliver lessons in drawing, painting, printing, computer-assisted design, photography, sculpture, ceramics and other crafts. You will be encouraging children to express themselves and develop their talents; using a variety of teaching methods including whole class lessons, projects, demonstrations and discussions and be given opportunities to develop innovative and progressive teaching and learning strategies using a range of materials including paper, paint, clay, cameras and computers. You may be asked to submit a portfolio of your work prior to an interview.

Spanish

Our Spanish course is dedicated to developing your expertise and we believe passionately in the benefits of creative, motivating and engaging language lessons to create the next generation of lifelong language speakers.At Co-op Academies Trust, we want all our students to realise that, in learning a language, it is equally important to submerge themselves in the study of that culture. We will train you to teach Spanish across the 11 to 16 age range leading to a postgraduate qualification and recommendation for qualified teacher status (QTS). Bursaries are available to successful applicants.
