We have made sure that our school community understands what it means to be seeking sanctuary and the issues surrounding forced migration.

Co-op Academy Woodslee has become a School of Sanctuary after receiving accreditation from City of Sanctuary UK. These awards recognise and celebrate those who go above and beyond in welcoming people who seek sanctuary.

The school has always been inclusive and welcoming, celebrating the diversity that makes its community so wonderful. Recently they have worked hard to make sure their school community understands what it means to seek sanctuary and the issues surrounding forced migration.

A big part of this was their successful Refugee Week – a week in which they celebrated all of the different cultures and faiths, and learned about the different languages of everyone who help make their school community as strong as it is.

SENDCo Ms. McGowan said: “We were so proud to receive our award at Birkenhead Town Hall this week. We will continue to celebrate diversity and offer a warm welcome to all who would like to be part of our community.”
