Mark Williams | Education Director
Mark Williams joined the Co-op Academies Trust in January 2017 as Education Director (West Pennines). He works with leaders of Trust academies in Greater Manchester, Stoke-on-Trent and Wirral to help them achieve best possible outcomes for pupils, including in their personal development. Mark’s current responsibilities in the Trust include oversight of the CPD programme and links with a range of partners including The Bell Foundation, the Schools Co-operative Society and Manchester Metropolitan University. He is the chair of the local governing body at Co-op Academy Leeds.
Born in Birkenhead, Mark qualified as a teacher in 1985. He taught in a number of schools on The Wirral before becoming a headteacher of two schools in that local authority. Following headship, Mark joined Ofsted in 2005 as one of Her Majesty’s Inspectors and inspected the full range of schools and age ranges, ITE partnerships and local authorities. He also held the position of National Lead for Academies and Free Schools and Senior HMI.
Mark is married with two children in their twenties. He lives on The Wirral and is a keen golfer requiring improvement and supports Tranmere Rovers Football Club.
