CAT Welcomes MCMA
One of the most rapidly improving schools in Manchester today (1 March) officially became part of the Co-operative Academies Trust. Manchester Creative and Media Academy (MCMA) in Blackley has joined the Trust, which oversees another seven secondary and primary academies in Manchester, Leeds and Stoke-on-Trent. To mark the occasion Mike Bracken, Chief Digital Officer and a member of the Co-operative Group Executive, visited the Academy to see for himself some of the students’ work.
Since it was announced last September that MCMA was to join the Co-operative Academies Trust, a HMI inspector has carried out a monitoring inspection which concluded that leaders and managers were taking effective action to improve the academy. The Inspector wrote: “Leaders continue to demonstrate convincingly that the school’s capacity to improve is strengthening. There is clear evidence from this inspection that leaders’ actions are having a positive impact on pupil progress and helping to improve standards across the academy.” The inspector also recognised the investment the Co-operative Academies Trust has already made to provide many opportunities for teachers and subject leaders to learn from expert practitioners from other schools. Russell Gill, Chair of the Co-operative Academies Trust, said: “We are totally committed to creating an outstanding learning community by delivering the highest standards of education based on co-operative values and principles so all students can achieve their maximum potential.” Principal of MCMA Rebecca Smith said: “As can be seen from the HMI inspector’s report, working with the Co-operative Academies Trust is already having a very positive impact on everyone at MCMA and I am convinced that together we can complete the transformation journey which we have already begun.”
